Alan Shearer names the player who typified 'everything good about Arsenal' against Southampton Match of the Day pundit singles out Arsenal star for praise after the 2-0 win against Southampton

Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac after the victory against Southampton at the Emirates Stadium yesterday (Sunday).

Arsenal moved back in the top four after a 2-0 win at home against the relegation-threatened visitors, with Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan on target for Unai Emery's men.

And Shearer singled out the Bosnia and Herzegovina international for praise in his analysis of Arsenal's display on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

"He [Kolasinac] had an excellent game in that left-back role. He was everything good about Arsenal, offering them width and pace going forward," the former Newcastle United striker said.

"He was the first to react a lot of the time, and he was driving the ball forward, give-and-goes and so much energy and that didn't change for the whole game

"He played that left-back role and look at how impressive he is in getting forward.

"He got into good positions and he was a constant threat, and he did his bit defensively as well. I thought he was superb."

Meanwhile, Shearer said the crucial moments in the game came early on, with Nathan Redmond being denied the opening goal by Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the first few minutes of the match.

The Gunners took the lead at the other end shortly after, and Shearer said that proved pivotal in the outcome of the game.

"At 0-0 Southampton had a very good opportunity. He [Redmond] did very well to get into the position, but he missed it. Then there is a counter attack and the ball comes into the box, and [Alexandre] Lacazette is onside," he said.

"And they [Arsenal] punish them. It is good finishing from [Henrikh] Mkhitaryan [for the second goal]."
